MASTER PROGRAM - Spring 2019
WOODBURY UNIVERSITY LOS ANGELES CA
COURSE: Contemporary Issues: Practice & Theory
INSTRUCTOR: Matthew Corbitt
Team: EITHAR , REEM, WAYNE, AVERY

Work placed on translating the structural concept to the new material, thermoformable plastic sheet. Thermoformable plastic can easily be cut, bent, and stretched to mold. A new skill set will be gained from the Vacuum Forming machine to create a smart, clean, and strong structural panel.

STRUCTURAL CONCEPTS - Lit Gills

This five-layered model uses two domes of different heights and widths in the base layer giving the finished surface a gently rolling and undulating appearance. The third layer consists of three openings or “Gills” running the length of the model and creating curved supporting ridges.

Integrated Building Services
The project title, Lit Gills, derives from the use of integrated LED lighting which crosses over three gill-like openings allowing for ventilation of the structure.

Form and Aesthetics
The structural form of this project takes on an organic quality with its undulating surface raised ridges, and curved outer edges. The pale blue LED lights bring a soft glow that can be seen throughout the model due to the cutaway second layer and the openings cut into in the third layer.
